Merry Christmas to you
and yours.
I invite you to print and read... A Christmas Pageant by Donna Tartt, a Christmas short story by one of my favorite authors.
The short story originally appeared in Harper's Magazine in 1993 and takes place in my childhood, when life was just a bit simpler.
Have a most blessed Christmas day and as Donna Tartt reminds us... Jesus is the true reason for the season and God does answers prayer!
God Bless, Deidre

I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.
You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news, Sept. 11, 2001.
Neither will I.
I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say "Good-Bye."
I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, "Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK...I am ready to go."
I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children.
I held her up as she tried to understand his words as she realized he wasn't coming home that night.
I was in the stairwell on the 23rd floor when a women cried out to me for help.
"I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!"
I said "Of course I will show you the way home - only believe in Me now."
I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls.
I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered.
I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer.
I was with the crew as they were overtaken.
I was in the very hearts of the believers there, Comforting and assuring them that their Faith has saved them.
I was in Texas, Kansas, London, everywhere in the world.
I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me?
I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though they did NOT all know Me.
Some met me for the first time on the 100th floor.
Some sought me out with their last breath.
Some couldn't hear me calling them through the smoke and flames, "Come to Me...this way...take my hand."
Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me.
But, I was there.
I did not place you in the Tower that day - you may not know why, but I DO.
However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would you have reached for Me?
September 11, 2001 was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end.
And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found. Then at any moment, you know you are "ready to go."
I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.
Remember...I love you.

Prayer for Safety in Hurricane Season
O God, Master of this passing world,
hear the humble voices of your children.
The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order
and returned to its former quietude.
You are still the Master of land and sea.
We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control:
the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant,
can awake from its seeming lethargy,
overstep its conventional boundaries,
invade our land,
and spread chaos and disaster.
During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father.
Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid
and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time.
O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother,
we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf,
so that spared from the calamities common to this area
and animated with a true spirit of gratitude,
we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son
to reach the heavenly Jerusalem
where a stormless eternity awaits us.
Amen.

Nothing Gold Can Stay
Robert Frost
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Miss you Johnny.

A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;

Windsor Ruins at Dusk
Port Gibson Area, Mississippi
2.23.08
The Story of Windsor: Along a rural road which winds through valleys of land with kudzu vines and moss covered hardwoods you find many riches of Mississippi's history. Among those most cherished and visited today are the Ruins of Windsor. Windsor was built by Smith Coffee Daniell II, who was born in Mississippi in 1826, the son of an Indian fighter turned farmer and landowner. In 1849, he took Catherine Freeland for his wife and, together, they had three children. Just weeks after completion of the grand home, Mr. Daniell died at the age of 34.
The Fall of the House called Windsor: On February 17, 1890, fire broke out in the house after a house guest accidentally dropped a cigarette in debris left by carpenters making repairs to the third floor. All was destroyed except a few pieces of china and 23 of the columns, balustrades and iron stairs.

Remember All The Rudy's This Christmas...
Rudy lives on the borderline
Between civilisation and basic survival
The summertime treats him fairly well
But the wintertime is a bitter cold rival
It's wintertime now in Georgetown
And the streets come alive with the Christmas lights
And Rudy sleeps on the warm air grate
With a newspaper blanket
On December nights.
Deck the halls,
Rudolph the red-nosed wino knows it's Christmas time
Jingle bells and Christmas shoppers dashing through the snow
God bless ye merry gentleman
Who have found it in your hearts to flip Rudy a thin
Cuz I'll be home for Christmas
But this man has no place to go.
Christmas has no meaning at all?
These people of greed and incredible waste
Who seek the deeper meaning in a shopping mall
With a yuletide spirit of impatience and hate
Rudy is a patient man
Who tries to see the beauty in everything
Is not a very demanding soul
Whose only wish is to live until the spring
Nobody knows the reasons why
Things turn out the way they do
And there ain't no one to tell you the reasons why there's fortunate folks
like me and you
Rudy must have people somewhere who wonder what became of a man
And Rudy must wonder the same damn thing
As the crowd passes by and he sticks out his hand.
Rudy died on the borderline
Of a civilized world on Christmas Eve
And the shoppers shopped and the temperatures dropped
On a man whose absence won't be greived
Peace on the soul of the cop who found him
In a booth with his hand frozen to a telephone
Y'know, I think I know who he had on the line
And Rudy won't spend this Christmas alone.
Deck the halls,
Rudolph the red-nosed wino knows it's Christmas time
Jingle bells and Christmas shoppers dashing through the snow
God bless ye merry gentleman
Who have found it in your hearts to flip Rudy a thin
And I'll be home for Christmas
But this year Rudy gets to go
And I'll be home for Christmas
But this year Rudy gets to go

Andy Dufresne: That's the
beauty of music. They can't get that from you...
Haven't you ever felt that way about music?
Red: I played a mean harmonica as a younger man. Lost interest in it though. Didn't make much sense in here.
Andy Dufresne: Here's where it makes the most sense. You need it so you don't forget.
Red: Forget?
Andy Dufresne: Forget that... there are places in this world that aren't made out of stone. That there's something inside... that they can't get to, that they can't touch. That's yours.
Red: What're you talking about?
Andy Dufresne: Hope.
Andy Dufresne: [in letter to Red] Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

darkness in my soul?

Last
Friday I started an 8-week online photography course.
In assignment 1. I had to photograph something in
motion. I have always wanted to be able to photograph
water. So I accepted the challenge. The first
obstacle was finding a flowing water source. Friday
morning was overcast with a light fog blanketing the
landscape. I veered off I-49 and snaked thru the back
road boarding the beautiful Cane River. The runoff
was flowing from the Cane River but with rain comes
mud. I got the shots and after scraping a ton of mud
off my jeans and shoes, Petey and I continued to
drive alone the Cane River into Natchitoches. The fog
had lifted and the sun was shining bright off the
water. Rows and rows of corn stretched tall into the
bright blue sky broken only by an old plantation home
or a field of pecan trees peppered with horses and
wildflowers. After freshening up in Natchitoches,
Bach accompanied me back home ending a wonderful day
of shooting.
Have a good week.
